Do you love a good terrarium as much as I do?  Lately I’ve been seeing so many beautiful terrariums on Pinterest, that I’ve been dying to make my own. Here are a few of my favourites: Via Via Via Via     A few months ago, I found this really cool glass display case at Homesense, for only $16.  It was love at first sight, and I snapped it up! I used clear silicone to seal along every joint to… Read more »

Things finally feel like they’re starting to come together around here! We’ve had a very busy couple of months, and are moving forward on more than one renovation project. Here are a few of the highlights of the last few months: I decorated the outside of our home for the first time this Christmas with items that I picked up last January for 75% off. I love the simple decorations, and the clear lights lining the roof edges. I’ve been… Read more »

Ok, someone get the defibrillator….. Mike, I am not pregnant…. breathe! I do, however, have lots of friends who are right now, and some who are trying, and I’ve been searching for cool DIY gift ideas, and thinking about nursery designs. Today’s post is just a quick little idea for thrifty artwork. If you recall our “before” house tour, you’ll remember that Mike’s office is right off of our living room and front hall entrance.  Mike is an MMA journalist, and trying to incorporate artwork and stuff into his office space that I can live with being seen from other rooms is difficult. Mike loves to collect old books, and over the years we’ve found several different vintage books about martial… Read more »

Work has been steadily progressing on the veranda, so I thought I’d give you a little update. The railings are on, and just need to be trimmed. I finally finished stripping the beams today.  What a big, crappy job in the crazy heat wave we’ve been experiencing!  I literally had sweat dripping down my body the entire time I worked!  I guess it didn’t help that I used a heat gun to strip the paint, lol. I am so not… Read more »

Hi faithful blog readers!  Sorry again for barely blogging all week!  I’ve been so busy around the house that I completely forgot to blog!  I’ve got lots to write about next week, so make sure you pop by and take a look! I thought I’d share a project with you that I completed a while ago.  I found a large artist’s canvas (3′ by 4′)  for $6.99 at a local shop.  I considered creating my own “Jackson Pollock,” until I… Read more »

Hey there Internet friends!  It’s been a busy week of renovation madness around here, and I figured I’d better get around to showing you some progress pictures of our veranda! Let’s take a look back at what the veranda looked like when we bought our house in December: Ugh, terrible and dangerous.  The roof was beginning to pull away from the brick.  No wonder, since it was being held to the bricks by nothing but 100 year old rusted nails!… Read more »

I thought I’d take a moment to show you all a dresser that I worked my DIY magic on.  About a year ago I was given a really ugly dresser.  I didn’t take a picture of it, but here’s a dresser with similar wood apliques.  I found it by googling “ugly 1970’s dresser.” My first impression was, “Ew.  No thanks.”  Sometimes it’s difficult to look at something and see that it could ever be anything other than an ugly piece… Read more »

Recently, my husband and I celebrated 15 years together.  It is so hard to believe that 15 years have passed so quickly.  I was only 18 when I met him; still a wild, crazy kid.  Don’t believe me? Maybe this will help to paint a clearer picture of who I was: Yeah, that’s me hanging off of a bridge.  And yes, my head is shaved.  This picture was taken by my friend Heather Saitz when she was first learning to… Read more »
